At the monthly meeting, Shawtown Alumni presented updates regarding plans to erect a building on the alumni property. Ernest Smith presented updates relating to the hiring of an attorney of record, engineering firm for construction, and the purchase of the building.
The Board of Directors approved the purchase of a building (Size: 60 feet X 80 feet). We have funds to pay for the building but need a pad/slab to erect the building onto. The alumni members made a motion, and it was seconded, to ask each alumni member to donate $100.00 for the purchase of the pad; the current ‘estimated’ cost of the pad is $34,000.00. With each alumni member donating $100.00, we can purchase the pad and, hopefully, get the building (a shell) erected by the 2024 Alumni Reunion. At the meeting, Ms. Hill and five other alums made contributions ‘kick-starting’ this effort by donating $600.00 towards the pad.
