Meet Dale Cornell Covington

Dale Cornell Covington holding a membership check

This is my story.

I am 66 years old. I was born with cerebral palsy and never walked a day in my life. Doctors said I would not live past 7 years of age. Because of my handicap I have been left out of life’s activities, so I have been left behind. Before my mother died, she told me that my brother (Walter Covington – ‘W.J.’) would take care of me.

That’s when my life began to change. W.J. told me that I would not be left behind anymore. I have been to the Mountains of NC and I’ve been to the beach many times, but the best thing was when W.J. took me to the Shawtown Alumni Reunion. The way I was accepted was the joy of my life.

Now I am an Honorary member of the Shawtown HS Alumni Association. I later learned that my grandmother Vera Mathews was in the first graduating class in 1934. In this picture you see me with my check for 1 year membership; I am on a fixed income but I’m going to try to do more for the Tiger Club.
